Questions about website builds, WooCommerce stores, hosting plans, and what to expect. For file prep and print questions, see the File Prep FAQ →
How long does a website project take?
Starter sites: 1–2 weeks. Business sites: 2–3 weeks. WooCommerce stores: 3–4 weeks. Redesigns and fixes: 1 day to 2 weeks depending on scope. Timeline starts after the scope is approved and I have your content — content is almost always the bottleneck.
What do you need from me to start?
For a new site: your business name, services or products, contact info, any existing branding (logo, colors, fonts), and the text you want on each page. Photos help but are not required on day one. For a redesign: admin access to the existing site and a clear description of what needs to change.
What platform do you build on?
WordPress, with WooCommerce for stores. No Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Divi, or Elementor. The sites I build are lightweight, fast, and editable without a developer for routine content updates — you are not trapped in a proprietary system.
What is included in a website build?
All builds include: WordPress setup, mobile-responsive layout, contact form, basic SEO (page titles, meta descriptions, sitemap), Google Analytics connection, SSL, and an admin walkthrough at handoff. Page count and feature depth vary by plan — see the web design page for specifics.
Can I edit the site myself after launch?
Yes. WordPress is designed for non-developers. You can update text, swap photos, add products, and post content without touching code. I walk you through the admin at handoff. For anything that needs development, one-off help is available at an hourly rate.
What is included in a hosting plan?
Server hosting, SSL certificate, daily backups, WordPress core and plugin updates, uptime monitoring, and a monthly edit allowance (varies by plan). Plans start at $25/month. See the hosting page for full details and plan comparison.
What happens if I need more work after launch?
One-off changes are available at an hourly rate, quoted before work starts. Monthly care plans include a set number of edits per month and are more cost-effective if you regularly need small updates. You are never locked in to a plan.
Do you work on sites built by other developers?
Yes, if it is a WordPress site. I can diagnose and fix most WordPress and WooCommerce issues regardless of how the site was originally built. Heavily customized or plugin-heavy setups may take longer to diagnose — I will tell you upfront if that is the case.
What if I already have hosting somewhere?
I can build and launch on your existing host if it meets minimum requirements (PHP 8+, MySQL 5.7+, adequate memory). If it does not, I will let you know and you can decide whether to migrate. My hosting plans include managed WordPress hosting that is typically faster and more reliable than general shared hosting.
Do you offer ongoing support outside of hosting plans?
Yes. You can reach out any time for one-off help — a broken checkout, a layout issue, a new product category, anything WordPress-related. I quote it before starting and bill by the hour. You do not need a plan to ask for help.
Can you build a custom plugin for my site?
Yes. If there is something specific your WooCommerce store or WordPress site needs to do and no off-the-shelf plugin handles it cleanly, I can build it. Common requests include custom checkout logic, admin dashboards, API integrations, order automations, and bespoke product configurators. See the Custom Plugins page for details and examples.
How are custom plugin projects scoped and priced?
Every plugin project starts with a $350 deposit that covers the discovery review and a small-scope build. After reviewing your intake answers I send a written scope and total — nothing is built until you approve it. Larger projects are broken into milestones, each agreed in writing before the phase begins. The deposit always applies to the total.
Do I own the code you build for me?
Yes, outright. The delivered plugin is yours — no licensing fee, no recurring payment tied to the core functionality, no dependency on me to keep it running. You get the source code and a written summary of what was built and how to use it.
Can you extend or fix a plugin someone else built?
Usually yes, as long as the original code is reasonably structured. I will review it first and let you know if there are issues that would make modifications risky or not cost-effective. Use the contact form to describe what you need and I will give you an honest assessment before any money changes hands.
